Welcome

to my personal blog. Here I post examples of my photography and writing. I specialize in making unique and highly detailed photographs. Notice I said making and not taking. Yes I take photos but a lot of time and work is involved in pushing and punishing the pixels in my images to achieve the look I like.

Please feel free make comments about any of my words or photos. I enjoy constructive critiques, learning about locations to shoot or photography techniques. Click on the "Share Article" link to share any of my photos via Flickr, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Want to use one of my posts in your own blog? No problem, but please make sure it links back to the original post here and do the right thing and give me credit. Don't copy my words, crop the images, remove the watermarks or claim my work as your own. This has happened more times than I can count so I've had to report copyright violations to ISP's and regrettably the violators blog is usually taken down.

Can't we all just get along?

Green Machine

Green Machine, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

Kathy had been telling me about the car show they hold every Wednesday at the Bob's Big Boy Broiler in Downey. There were a lot of nice cars at this show and it got packed with people as the evening progressed. The sun was setting as I took this shot. I don't know if the participants (who were all very cool) knew what to make of Kathy and I. We were both using our big DSLR's, carrying tripods and laying down on the floor to get these low angle shots. Most people were using point and shoot cameras with their flashes.

Compassion

Compassion, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

My Nephew Manny and I had walked along the Lincoln memorial reflecting pool in a driving rain when we saw the Vietnam Women's Memorial through the trees. It was very quiet as we approached the site. It was early and nobody else was around. The Vietnam Women's Memorial is dedicated to the women who served in the Vietnam War. It was designed by Glenna Goodacre and was dedicated on November 11, 1993.

TREX Crossing

Entry hall of the Academy of Sciences in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. It's tough to take HDR sequences with lots of people moving around. Requires a lot of masking in Photoshop.

One Bad '40 Ford

One Bad '40 Ford, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

I wanted to capture the amazing grill on this 1940 Ford Tudor Sedan so I setup my tripod and camera lens 6" above the ground. I also managed to get a pretty nice view of the dramatic clouds overhead.

Profile of a Classic Car

Profile of a Classic Car, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

This red 1957 Chevy caught my eye almost from the moment Kathy and I arrived at the Elks Santa Ana car show. The cars were parked fairly close together so it was tough to get a full body shot of this beautiful classic car. Maybe next time.

'57 faces the Coming Storm

This amazing black 1957 Chevy Bel-Air sits under dramatic skies. Kathy and I attended a small car show in Santa Ana, California and saw several really nice cars. As is typical for car shows, the owners are always cool and happy to let us photograph their cars. It did rain later in the day but we were lucky to stay dry during the shoot. I'll be posting more photos from this show in the next few days.

The newly remodeled and reopened Academy of Science Museum in San Francisco has a very large T-Rex replica that towers over the entrance hall. I took this shot from the third floor.

Eastern Bakery

Eastern Bakery, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

Opened in 1924, the Eastern Bakery was the first bakery in San Francisco's China Town. Located at 720 Grant Street and known best for their Moon cakes which feature a light melon filling or rich lotus seed paste, the Eastern Bakery is a San Francisco landmark. Kathy and I decided to walk over to Chinatown early before any of the stores opened and the crowds gathered. Chinese new year had just started the day before and the foggy streets were covered with red paper from exploded firecrackers.

Silent Street Scene

Silent Street Scene, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

Kathy and I woke up really early on our last day in San Francisco. I looked outside of our hotel window and could see the fog rolling down the hill and heading for China Town. I told her I was just going to throw on some clothes and walk over and take some shots. She got up immediately and we both headed out. It was so strange to walk around the silent China Town streets. This area was just packed with people and traffic the day before.
