Are my photos for sale?

While all of my photographs are copyrighted, they are available for non-exclusive licensing and I also sell large size prints. Contact me via email at greg.jones.design@icloud.com for pricing info.

Welcome

to my personal blog. Here I post examples of my photography and writing. I specialize in making unique and highly detailed photographs. Notice I said making and not taking. Yes I take photos but a lot of time and work is involved in pushing and punishing the pixels in my images to achieve the look I like.

Please feel free make comments about any of my words or photos. I enjoy constructive critiques, learning about locations to shoot or photography techniques. Click on the "Share Article" link to share any of my photos via Flickr, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Want to use one of my posts in your own blog? No problem, but please make sure it links back to the original post here and do the right thing and give me credit. Don't copy my words, crop the images, remove the watermarks or claim my work as your own. This has happened more times than I can count so I've had to report copyright violations to ISP's and regrettably the violators blog is usually taken down.

Can't we all just get along?

It's full of stars...

It's full of stars..., originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

Kathy and I were walking around the financial district in San Francisco when we decided to go into this shopping center in search of lunch. This was taken from the food court on the bottom level. I just set the camera on the table, lens facing skyward and tried to keep my head out of the way. Lots of stores here I never ever shop in.

When will his glory fade?

The first time I visited the Lincoln Memorial I remember thinking it was a very beautiful place and wonderfully sited. Lincoln's Statue gazes over the heads of visitors and seems to be looking at the wonders of the National Mall spread out before him. These include the long reflecting pool, World War II Memorial, Washington Monument and the United States Capital Building. Although the statue evokes a strong feeling of his resolve to preserve the Union, it also feels somewhat sad. Lincoln is not depicted in glory but instead he seems serene and reflective.

Personal Spacecraft

Personal Spacecraft, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

It's really a miracle that men and women work outside of the international space station, often for hours without the benefit of a tether. The spacesuits they wear are in fact personal spacecraft providing everything they need to survive in the harsh reality that is space. These suits maintain a constant 72 degrees farenheit when the environmental temperature is +250 in the sun and -250 in the shade. Extraordinary engineering.

Under Your Wing

Under Your Wing, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

The US Navy's RA-5C Vigilante aircraft has a giant wing. I was hiding from the sun here for a while so I decided to lay down and take a photo. Some smart ass kids asked If I had fallen and couldn't get back up. I regained my feet rapidly and towered over them not saying a word. They left immediately. Little yuppie larvae.

Oscar's Nomad

Oscar's Nomad, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

This 1957 Chevy Nomad was my absolute favorite car from the Uptown Whittier Car Show for 2 years in a row. I had never been fortunate enough to meet the owner but I did drop my business card in the car which features an image of the car itself. I had to work late on Friday so I ended up meeting Kathy and my nephew Santino at the Rubys Car Show a little late. After sneaking up behind me and kicking me in the butt, Kathy told me that the Nomad I liked so much was at the show. After having a quick bite to eat we walked over and met the owner who was very cool. I got a few more shots and this one of them. I'm sure I'll be posting more soon.

Keeping up with Kathy

Keeping up with Kathy, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

Ok so I've noticed when my wife Kathy and I go to car shows together, she gets her camera setup, mounts it on her tripod, attaches her off camera shutter release, gets her expodisc looped around her neck and has finished photographing her first car before I even start opening my backpack. Now, I'm not implying she rushes around taking snapshots. Far from it. Her images are amazing. See for yourself. I just think she's way more efficient than I am when making images. Realizing this, I decided to challenge myself a bit. I took my Lensbaby Composer with me to this car show. It requires that I manually set the focus and exposure before taking the HDR sequence. I think this helped me concentrate a bit more and I ended up shooting more cars than I usually do. Unfortunately due to that concentration I met fewer people which is a bummer. I'll have to learn to strike a balance!

Sundowners

Sundowners, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

Another Wednesday evening at the drive-in. The sun was going down fast by the time I got a chance to make an image of this amazing car. The owner walked up and asked if I was "filming" his car. I said no since I was making images. He jumped in and left almost immediately afterward.

It would be mine

It would be mine, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

Ok I like making images of classic cars but I don't really want one... Well I didn't until I saw this cool red coupe. Now if money wasn't an object, and if my wife didn't object... I might not either. Hmmmm. Look at me, look at me!
